Advice to my students

So we have to make sure we are not running after dunya, we must run towards the Prophet ﷺ. Then your heart will have the highest level of imaan and at that time you will reflect whatever is in it and outside it for people to look at. You become a mirror for khalaa’iq people, and at the same time a mirror for yourself. That is a state of sainthood, but you have to struggle for it.

O Muslims! Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ ordered us to love each other and to be humble to each other. Pride and arrogance are from the characteristics of Iblees. I’m not here today to teach you your religion, astaghfirullah. I need someone to teach me also; I am a student. I don’t see myself as anything..I’m under the shoes of people; I’m at the footsteps, the threshold of imaams and shuyukh.

I hope and I love to be under the feet of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ! Humbleness is what we need. If we loose humbleness, we will loose our matters, our unity, and our power. Because if we have humbleness we will feel that whoever wants to sit on the chair, let them sit. I will be at the shoes hiding myself, not to be at the main door; that is better, to let someone else take that responsibility.

Work for Akhira!

What are we doing for akhira? We pray and finish quickly. We are commuting one hour, or 45 min to reach our work and if there is traffic then it takes one hour there and back. Then we are working 9 or 10 hours. It means 13 hours a day for work and you sleep 6 hours. And then 4 hours on video and tv. And what are you spending on`ibadah? 5 minutes. That is if you pray 5 prayers. Multiply them 5 x 5 or 10 – it is one hour. Then you say you are dong for Allah!

Work for dunya as if you are living forever, and work for Allah as if you are dying tomorrow. If someone comes and tells you he is dying of cancer what happens. He is afraid and he will worship day and night. So that concern has to be in our daily life. If we are not keeping in our daily life we are losing.

In another hadith, when the Prophet ﷺ asked the Sahaabah (r), “Who is the bankrupt, poor one who has nothing?” The Sahaabah (r) said, “The one who has no money.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “No, the one who has no `amal is poor.” And they said, “Even if he fasts and prays?” He said, “Yes, even if he fasts and prays.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:
Do you know who the muflis (bankrupt one) is? The muflis from my Ummah is one who comes on the Day of Judgment having performed prayer, fasting, and giving zakaat. However, along with all of this, he abused this person and slandered that person, ate the wealth of this person and unlawfully spilled the blood of that person. These people will take from his good deeds. If, however, his good deeds become exhausted, then their sins will be put upon him and he will be thrown into the Fire. (Muslim)

So being “bankrupt” is due to many incidents that happen in our life and instead of covering them, we are exposing them. We may hear something and it might be a mistake, but we bring down the respect of that man or woman. So the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to always have good intentions, good thoughts, and to look more at the positive, not at the negative. If that person has mistakes, look to see is he more positive and if he is, cover the mistake and overlook it.

My servant does not cease to approach Me through voluntary worship until I will love him. When I love him, I will become the ears with which he hears, the eyes with which he sees, the hand with which he acts, and the legs with which he walks (and other versions include, “and the tongue with which he speaks.”). (Hadith Qudsi, Bukhari)

In this Hadith Qudsi, Allah (swt) is saying to Prophet (s) to tell the Ummah, “If they approach Me through voluntary worship,” we cannot run away from our obligations, we must fulfill them, but approach Allah through our voluntary worship, through the Sunnah of Prophet and good behavior, makaarim al-akhlaaq:
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِي
You are of the most exalted character. (Surat al-Qalam, 68:4)
انما بعثت لاتمم مكارم الاخلاق
I have been sent to perfect the best of conduct (your behavior and character). (Bazzaar)

You have to approach Allah (swt) through good behaviors. Who does that will be able to hear what people cannot hear and see what people cannot see, which means there is the possibility of seeing and hearing, otherwise Allah would not say that to Prophet (s), who would not say it to the Ummah. “My servant does not cease to approach me through voluntary worship until I love him,” period, finished! When Allah loves someone (all other matters are) finished.
